Insights from Joel Bauer’s Passion2Profit

Last weekend I attended Joel Bauer’s Passion2Profit weekend. Although I won’t reveal any of the material he taught, I did come away from the event with several marketing insights.

Writing a Book

One of the most important insights that Joel emphasized was the importance of writing a book. The book is the single most important marketing tool you can create because it immediately establishes you as the recognized expert in your market and draws clients and customers like no other medium.

It is important not just to have a book but to make sure the book is good. It is your public face on the world and reflects the quality of your business.

Get Started Now and Don’t Try to be Perfect

Going for perfection is the single best way to fail. Yes, you need to be good enough but you don’t need to spend years fine-tuning. Make it good, get it out there and revise as needed in the future.

This is especially true of your book. If you wait until the time is right, you will never write it and you will never get the benefits. Take one step now, whether it is organizing your thoughts, writing the outline or just thinking up a theme. Do one small item every day and eventually you will have your book.

This works for everything you do. Most of our major marketing projects take more than a few minutes. The key is to make progress every day, not try to do it all at once.

Get More Education

Never stop learning. If you want to write better, join programs like my Protege Program, join a writers group, go to writers conferences, find a mentor and above all read what you want to write.

Live events are one of the best ways to meet other people who think the same way you do. They are the best way to meet potential mentors and teachers.

No matter who much you think you know, always go with the intent to learn something. Even if you come away with just one great idea, the two or three days will be worth it. You will come away inspired to succeed.

Act on What You Learn

The biggest mistake most people make is to go back to doing the same old things they were doing before. If you learn new ideas, implement them. If it is not perfect, implement anyway. If you need a book, write one. If you need help, I’ll help you do it.
