Why You Must Write A Book

You’ve heard all the usual reasons.

Of course a book helps you to become the expert in your market. It also helps you get speaking engagements. It even can discipline you. Writing is hard work, takes a lot of effort, and has great rewards.

And if that was all you got out of it, writing a book would be worth the effort.

There’s more.

When you write a book, you in essence create your business. This matters because your book will attract certain clients, the ones who read your book, like what you said, and want to work with you.

Don’t take this aspect of writing a book lightly. The process of deciding what goes in your book parallels the process of designing your business. First, you decide what you will do, how you will sell your products and services and exactly what those products and services are.

The content of your book will mirror the content you present in your business. If it doesn’t, you will create a disconnect between what you do and what you write about. After your potential client reads your book, he or she will be excited to hire you to perform the services you wrote about. If you tell that client that you don’t do that, you just wrote about it because you felt like it, you will create a very disappointed prospect, who will tell others about that disappointment.

If you are just starting your business, be sure to narrow your niche to one that you can describe in concrete terms, then decide who your target audience is. Decide what they need and tailor your services to meet that need.

Then do exactly the same thing with your book.

Once you do this, you will be in a position to use the book to show your expertise in your market, stand out from the crowd, and attract clients and customers.
